Assuring quality of Renewable Energy
Renewable Energy Test Station (RETS) is an autonomous body governed by “RENEWABLE ENERGY TEST STATION RULES 2063” framed under clause 31 of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Act 2048. Previously it was known as Solar Energy Test Station (SETS). It is located inside the premises of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal. It was formally established in July 2001 with mutual collaboration of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC), Energy Sector Assistance Program (ESAP), Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) and Solar Electric Manufacturers Association of Nepal (SEMAN). Danish Technological Institute (DTI) of Denmark was appointed as full-turn-key technical consultant cum contractor for the establishment of the laboratory. The financial assistance for physical and institutional set-up of the laboratory including equipment was made available by ESAP where as SEMAN coordinated with the test fee payment by the manufacturers to take care of the operational expenses of SETS. NAST provided the facilities for the office spaces. RETS is today a well-equipped laboratory with sophisticated equipment and instrument for testing and measuring the quality of Solar PV components supported by trained and qualified technical personnel. Test facilities for the measurement of the quality of Solar Home System (SHS) components and system as a whole is readily available in the laboratory whereas laboratory setting up for testing Solar Thermal components and system is under progress. Likewise laboratory facilities for testing the components and systems of other sectors of renewable energy such as Bio-mass/Bio-gas, Solar Dryer, Solar Cooker and Improved Cooking Stoves (ICS) are in operational and other subcomponents like Micro-hydro, Wind , Solar Pump are being considered to be established phase wise as and when feasible..
